UPDATE: In response to the recent news about Dr. Choi’s alleged arrested, a company with the name “NewsTalk” is selling T-shirts labelled “Eileen the Clown.” It is important to note, Eileen has not spoken publicly about her husband’s reported arrested. However, multiple social media users have come forward to attest to the original claim’s validity.
Richard Choi, the husband of Toronto’s top doctor, has been arrested for fraud, extortion, money laundering, and other serious offences in relation to his work at AstraZeneca. He is alleged to have been caught putting illegal “pressure” on his wife to enact strict COVID policies on the people of Toronto. According to police, he used threats of violence and financial ruin to get his wife to comply. It is unclear if Eileen de Villa will face any charges, but Toronto Police have stated it is not off the table.
The groundbreaking media report that lead to the arrest was made by Diverge Media. Prior to the report, speculation was rampant on social media, with many accusing de Villa of being dishonest about her husband’s financial interest in AstraZeneca. The report was passed on to the Financial Crimes Unit of Toronto Police, and an investigation was launched.

Dr. Choi is currently being held overnight for a bail hearing. Police said he is likely to get bail, although he will likely be under significant restrictions. He also faces the prospect of losing his medical license. AstraZeneca was reached for comment, but did not immediately respond.
Arrest “not a surprise”
According to one Toronto Resident, Dr. Choi’s arrest is not a surprise. Another Resident expressed mild concern that his wife was not charged, and stated “she got off lucky.”
The pressure to arrest Eileen de Villa and investigate her husband for corruption has gone on for some time. Many Conservatives and Libertarians have been pushing for an investigation into Eileen de Villa as early as 2020. Some have gone as far as creating a petition demanding her arrest.

Additionally, de Villa’s approach to lockdowns have been criticized by several Doctors including Ash Kaur from Brampton. In a recent post she stated, “show the scientific evidence lockdowns are effective to reducing morbidity and mortality If you can’t: then why are you promoting harmful lockdowns?”
